I Cooked a 300-Million-Year-Old Fossil

Ever wonder what happens when a stone isn’t protected during soldering? I used a 300-million-year-old fossilized ammonite as a sacrificial experiment to demonstrate exactly how heat travels through metal. Even though I never pointed the flame directly onto the stone you can watch it change color and char at the edges. This is why I submerge gemstones in water when I solder.
