14k yellow gold earrings with two 20th Century Wedgwood Jasperware round medallions, with the “Wedgwood” stamp behind each.
The Jasperware was acquired separately at auction and was bezel-set into these new earrings, that were custom designed for these objects.
The earrings have French back clips and a cluster of diamonds on the bottom, 6 round-shaped weighing 0.32 carats total.
The motif on the medallions is a lion passant, showing the animal walking with the right forepaw raised and all others on the ground. This is a classic heraldic symbol and is often used in crests and coats of arms to signify courage, strength, and nobility.
The color of each lion is the classic Wedgwood blue – a light blue with a distinct soft matte finish – a signature color of Wedgwood ceramics since the 18th century. The darker blue behind the lion is either a “Dark Royal” or “Portland” blue.
These earrings are part of a broader series of jewelry that is being custom made by Massoyan Jewelers, using Wedgwood Jasperware.
Background on Wedgwood:
Wedgwood was founded in 1759 by Josiah Wedgwood, a pioneering English potter who revolutionized ceramics with innovative techniques and neoclassical designs. He is best known for creating jasperware, a matte-finished stoneware. Over the centuries, Wedgwood became synonymous with elegance and craftsmanship, earning royal patronage and global acclaim.
